After several years of absence, I’m bringing this blog back to life.

Part of the delay has been down to having to refresh the site with an updated Hugo theme (Rusty Typewriter), as the old original theme (Academic-Kickstart, rebranded to Wowchemy) was deprecated in too many ways to sensibly update. It’s a lesson in keeping things simple, which I hope I now have. I was drawn to static website generators like Hugo for their frugal resource requirements, portability, and the compatibility to the R package blogdown, but I hadn’t realised that some of these benefits go away when you have themes with a high number of dependencies.

I hope you enjoy the new look, and I’m hoping to write more articles soon. There’s plenty I’ve learned and worked on since the last post that’s worth documenting.
